Bamburgh Beach

Bamburgh beach and particularly Bamburgh Castle, has more history, romance and atmosphere than virtually every other beach in the UK. The beach itself is a corker with miles of uninterrupted fine white sand with excellent water quality. There is a multitude of shifting sand bars along its length, providing great left and right-handed beach breaks throughout the tide. Further up the beach to the north, pointing straight out to Holy Island, is a spur of rock that creates a great right hand reef break, which can produce fantastic walling waves.

Set high on a huge pinnacle of rock, Bamburgh Castle dominates the skyline and looks down across the whole beach. This red stone castle is still inhibited and is the silhouette that frames the local skyline. To get to the beach you have to pass beneath the massive stone buttresses and the wall that towers above you, past the ruined walls and through the sand dunes onto the beach. The village provides the beach with all required facilities, not least an excellent pub which produces top quality meals. The place oozes history, from Vikings to monks and with the quality waves and Meade - this place has it all.
