Banff beach is one of Scotland's top north facing beaches and is set at the back of the small Banff Bay. It picks up any surf channelling down into the Moray Firth and has several high quality breaks. The most obvious is the beach break right in front of the town to the west of the harbour. This shifting peak can produce some really powerful, plunging waves, is best at the lower parts of the tide and is suitable for all surfers Additionally there is a reef break and a river mouth break right of the river at the eastern side of the town which produce equally high quality waves but are best left to intermediate and above level surfers. These can produce some really powerful waves with a right-hander on the reef and both left and rights on the river mouth, depending on the conditions.
The beach is a great crescent of the typical pink sand found on this coast of Scotland and has good access and facilities from the village directly behind the beach. There are several free parking spots in the village. Banff is a great little beach with a great variety of good surfing waves.
