Boyndie Bay is Banff's second beautiful beach and one of Scotland's more challenging surfing beaches. It is a lovely, quiet and medium sized beach nestling between headlands that extend out into the Moray Firth to the west of Banff village. At the right hand edge of the bay is a headland with an associated right-hander point, which works in most swells at the higher stages of the tide. On a big swell this can generate some seriously hollow waves. The rest of the bay is a long sandy beach that has various shifting peaks that work through the full range of the tide. The rip tides here can be strong so it's a beach ideally suited to intermediate level surfers and above, who will enjoy its powerful and challenging waves immensely.
Boyndie Bay is larger and more rural than Banff Bay but is only a short drive out of the village. The tidal range is quite large, which combined with the shallow beach angle means that a large swathe of the beaches pink sand is exposed at low tide. The beach is easily accessed from the A98, which provides a great mean to explore the other beaches along this north facing section of coast. A great beach with challenging surfing waves.
