Brighton Beach

Brighton Beach's stunning pier makes it the most renown beach in the south of England. Although Brighton's West Pier was lost in a fire, the New Pier remains as the centrepiece to this great beach. The beach itself is typical of this stretch of coastline; sand below a higher ridge of shingle and pebbles, with the raised bank angled perfectly, facing south for the best of the sun. It is several kilometres long running from the rivermouth in the west to the Marina in the east, with the pier two thirds of the way along.

The surf here is best when a large swell is pushing up the channel from the west and the best spots are between the remains of West pier and the marina. The waves are focussed on peaks and all work best at the lower stages of the tide, before it reaches the higher and steeper parts of the beach. Brighton can produce good quality waves under the right conditions and is an excellent beach, well provided for by the superb facilities and nightlife just a short distance behind it. On top of the excellent and varied pubs, bars, clubs and restaurants, there is also a great number of things for all ages to explore. Brighton is a great all-round beach resort.
