Harlyn Bay is a hidden treasure - it requires close navigation through a warren of country lanes to get to but is well worth the attention, as once there its quality waves and golden sands will spoil you. The beach is about a kilometre of fine gold sand at the back of a sweeping and quite open bay, backed by low sand dunes and with only a sprinkling of houses, giving it a great, remote feel. There are low rocky headlands at each end of the bay and the main peak works from right hand of these, although there are also high quality sections of beach break in the centre of the bay.
The waves can be exceptional; producing walling, peeling lengthy rides into the bay. There is a good local pub for relaxing in after a day at the bach, alternatively Padstowe and Wadebridge are just up the road. Cornwall is blessed with great surf spots and this is one of the best.
