West Wittering Beach

West Wittering beach is the northern end of an enormous strip of sand that runs for nearly 8 kilometres southeast from Chichester harbour down to Selsey Bill, facing out into Bracklesham Bay. The beach is very different to the majority of this coastline, being made up of fine white sand and is set at a very shallow angle, which means that a significant amount is exposed at low tide. Above the white sand beach is the typical pebble ridge that is synonymous with beaches on the south coast.

The surf on this beach can be very good and depends on swell being pushed up the Channel and wrapping around the Isle of White into Bracklesham Bay. With several kilometres of sand to explore south down to Selsey Bill, there are hundreds of shifting peaks to explore and catch waves on your own. In addition this beach is a windsurfing and kite surfing paradise, with such a gentle sloping beach it is very easy to stay within a safe depth of water. Consequently this is an ideal location for novices and beginners and is thus popular for teaching. The beach at this end is privately owned and has an enormous car park and excellent facilities. At the start of the approach road is the excellent local pub for the après beach refreshments. West Wittering beach is a fantastic expanse of perfect sand, large enough to absorb even the biggest crowds.
