The town of Falmouth is one of Cornwall and England's most popular travel destinations and its three main beaches (together with Falmouth harbour and its fantastic inns and pubs) are in part responsible for this. Gyllyngvase Beach is one of the three main Falmouth beaches, sitting in-between Castle Beach and Swanpool beach. The sand and rock beach produces great beach break waves in big south-westerly swells or if there is an easterly storm system sat in the channel. If you are lucky you may be there on one of the days when Gyllyngvase Reef, located just off the headland at the right end of the beach, starts working. This reef, as it is covered by the incoming tide, produces fast peeling right hand walls and is a challenging fun wave for intermediate surfers and above.
It couldn't be more conveniently situated, directly in front of the town so if you have had a late night or are just having an early start, all you have to do is roll out of bed! The beach is really well served with facilities and is so close to the centre of town you could roll out of bed in the morning and be in the water in literally a couple of minutes. If you want to combine surfing with a stay in the heart of a great town, Gyllyngvase beach is ideal.
