Wembury Beach

Wembury must be one of the most picturesque beaches in the country. The approach is via a footpath down a lush green valley alongside a small stream, with a rugged Church perched on the cliff top looking down into he small bay below. The small crescent shingle beach is dominated by the low lying Blackstone Rocks, which sit in the centre of the bay at the left end of the beach. These act as a reef when submerged and produce long peeling lefts off the rocks in good swells.

This is somewhere that novice surfers should avoid, as there can be rip currents running along the reef, which combines with the obvious hazard of submerged rocks. In the right conditions the waves here can be of the highest quality and the risks are worth it for intermediate level surfers and above.

The best activities out of the water are just up the road in Plymouth, which has some of Devon's best nightlife, leisure and history throughout the City, and in Dartmoor National Park.
