Lynmouth

Lynmouth Bay, is just up from Lynton and under the right conditions is one of the best left-hand surf spots in the UK. The crowds never get large at Lynmouth because of its remote location and the fact that it breaks over boulders! So its not for the faint hearted or novices.

There are three main peaks; in front of the car park, in front of the river mouth and the bay. When the swell is the right size and direction the three main peaks can join to produce a long peeling left-hander that runs for couple of hundred metres from the carpark to the bay. The best entry point is from the old seawall into the river mouth and then paddling straight out, using the large wooden pilings as navigation guide.

The village is a great place to spend some time as it has real character and history. There is a great story of local lifeboat men dragging a heavy wooden lifeboat over the cliff top for several miles, to put in at the only beach from which they could launch to rescue a sinking ship - which they did. This puts into perspective what puts off so many people from this high quality wave.
