Sweeping south from Filey Brigg at the left end of the beach, Filey Bay is the largest single beach in Yorkshire. Filey Bay is the less brash cousin of nearby Scarborough; smaller, quieter, but with a very similar beachfront, beach and waves. The beach is made up of the same dark gold sand, which is again completely covered at high tide. The large point of Filey Brigg shelters the northern half of the bay, so that in normal conditions the southern end picks up most of the swell generating good quality waves for all levels of surfers.
In heavier conditions though, the best peaks are found at the top end of the beach, under the lee of Filey Brigg and this often one of the better beaches in big storm conditions on this strip of coast.
Filey is a quiet, little town with a great beach. If you need more activities and things to do, the vibrant nightlife of Scarborough is just up the road along with the stunning scenery of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.
