Happisburgh is another small village further down the same strip of sand as Cromer, Mundesley & Walcott and again works best in the same conditions as these beaches. It will pick up any swell being pushed down the North Sea from Scotland and works best in large swell conditions. At high tide the beach is a narrow strip of clean sand tucked between wooden pilings and the low cliffs behind the beach; more of the sand is obviously exposed as the tide drops. This line of wooden pilings gives the beach its character - somewhere between a set from Mad Max and a Saving Private Ryan. As it provides an obvious hazard the best surfing conditions are from low to mid tide.
Happisburgh's cliffs don't fully protect the beach from any strong southerly winds and so the beach is a good venue for wind and kite surfers. The village of Happisburgh is small ensuring that the beach never gets particularly busy. It is a quiet location with the bright lights of Great Yarmouth further to the south if required.
