Hook Head is not really a single beach but rather a stretch of amazingly rugged coast with lots of features worth exploring. It has a picture perfect village with a small old stone walled harbour that is still used by small fishing boats that put out into the bay every day. The village wraps around the harbour and is set amongst lush agricultural land.
The coast here is rough, rugged and extremely scenic. There is a maze of small inlets and coves framed by thick, black spurs of rock all the way from the village up to the tip of Hook Head, which is dominated by the historic lighthouse.
The water quality along here is excellent, whilst the beaches are generally sand below pebbles. This is somewhere worth exploring.
