Lunan Bay is absolutely idyllic. If you are after the sort of tranquillity where you forget what stress even is and the rest of the world seems a million miles away, Lunan Bay is the place. It is fairly isolated being at the end of a farm track but has plenty of free parking. The beach is at the end of a short walk over wood duck boarding. Once you are there it is paradise, a wild golden sand beach, framed against sprawling, high sand dunes crested with marram grass, headlands at each end of the beach, one crested with the ruins of a castle.
Even if you came for the surf you will want to sit on the beach to take it all in for a while. The waves are great too, surprisingly powerful plunging waves break along the full length of the beach, on various sandbanks providing both lefts and rights for all levels of surfers.
The beach is not obvious, being at the end of a farm road and requires good navigation to find, although it is only a short distance from the main A92. Once in your life you should visit this place....
