Newquay - Great Western Beach

Newquay's Great Western beach is the perfect venue for catching some quality waves just yards from some of the best nightlife in Cornwall. Slap bang in the middle of the home of British surfing, the beach is just north of Towan but is slightly wider & deeper and has mini coves tucked under the headland, providing some degree of seclusion and privacy whilst on the beach. Great Western is accessed by steep flights of steps down from the cliff at both ends of the beach. At high tide the beach becomes a small rectangle of sand, but at low tide the beach opens up and connects with each of the other four beaches in the bay, forming a huge strip onto which the surf breaks in various peaks.

The surf is just as consistent as Fistral beach but is not as hollow, making the waves more rideable for novices and intermediates and this is an ideal beach for novices to practice catching some quality waves and honing their technique.

The beach caters for all levels of surfing ability and there are a plethora of surf schools, manned by some of the high-class surfers that this world-class surfing location has spawned. On top of this is the incredible nightlife; Newquay has a multitude of bars and clubs to explore routinely packed with hundreds of local and visiting beach goers, so if you are after a 24-hour surfing experience look no further than the surfing Mecca of the UK!
