Pevensey Bay is an attractive and quiet sand and pebble beach, that sits just around the headland from Eastbourne, on the other side of Lagney Point. It has a great residential feel - almost that of a private beach - due to the bungalows that sit at the top of the shale bank above the waters edge and the lack of any nearby resort developments. The beach itself is sand below a bank of small pebbles, which is angled perfectly for the morning sun that rises above Hastings further up the coast. Here are good facilities with a small car park directly behind the beach containing toilets and an information centre. There is also the Bay Hotel just 50m to the rear of the beach for relaxing in after a day at the beach.
Pevensey Bay is further back from Beachy Head than Eastbourne and consequently doesn't produce the same degree of surf when the swell is pushing up the channel from the west, although under the right conditions it may produce rideable waves when the swell is coming from the east. It is however a great venue for windsurfers and kite surfers, and is just down the coast from one of the southeast's best resort towns.
