Camping in tents or vans is the most popular form of beach side accommodation and Surfing Genie has many campsites imediately behind some of the best beaches in the UK and Ireland. Camping in Britain can be split into two almost completely different experiences, between England & Wales and Scotland & Ireland. Camping parks are not as common in Ireland and Scotland as they are in England and Wales but this is because there is so much land on which to wild camp. However you are unlikely to have to share your pitch with caravans in the same way in either Scotland or Ireland as you would in England and Wales. During the summer months country roads, particularly near the coast of England and Wales can see a sudden influx of caravans, which are not ideally suited to the narrow country lanes. The great majority of campsites now come with permanently fixed caravans for hire, helping to reduce this seasonal surge on the roads and byways. There are hundreds of campsites around the British Isles, charging anything from £5 per night for a single tent pitch to £15 per night for pitches with access to full amenities. Growing numbers of campsites are providing excellent amenities including full shower / toilet blocks, shops, laundries and sports facilities. Some hostels will include areas in the grounds for pitching tents at half the charge for a room, whilst some farms will offer tent pitches for as little as £3 per night. Most campsites are open from March to October. Be aware that free camping is illegal in national parks, nature reserves and imediately behind many of the beaches around the British Isles. The simplest way to use Surfing Genie is to search the database of Beaches and choose your dream destination first. Then click on the link underneath ‘Accommodation’, which will take you to all campsites closest to that beach. Click here to start searching.
