Redcar is a huge length of fine red-sand beach facing northeast into Tees Bay, running from the River Tees in the north to Saltburn several kilometres off to the south. The best surfing peak is on the scars, which are rocky outcrops found pretty much in the centre of the beach. Here the swell gets pushed up into a consistent peak creating some challenging waves suitable for all levels of ability.

There are other shifting sandbar peaks, which work across the tidal range and the whole beach is suitable for all levels of surfer. If you have children with you there's a good boating lake to keep them entertained and if you are after something completely different post surfing, check out the horse racing at Redcar racetrack, not far from the station. On its day this beach can be as good as anywhere along this stretch of coast.
