Sandsend beach is a stunning beach located on the north east coast of the UK just to the north of Whitby and right in the middle of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. As you can imagine its is an extremely scenic area and the beach is just as picturesque. The beach itself is hidden below high grassy cliffs and is well supported by general facilities on the sea wall, including toilets, changing huts and cafes. It produces great beach breaks all the way down the beach from the harbour quay in the south up to the headland in the north. The beach breaks don't shift around as much as many nearby beaches and the beach works throughout the full tidal range. The waves can be quite powerful and care should be taken in larger swell as the waves can break in very shallow water and thus produce some intense rips - beginners take care.

There is also a reef at the top end of the beach tucked under the cliffs, which is at its best in medium sized swells during the middle part of the tide. This is also a peak that requires a degree of wariness from junior surfers. There is a lot to do in nearby Whitby and - if you have the energy - across the nearby North Yorkshire Moors.
