Seaton Sluice is an excellent beach that can produce long peeling waves, suitable for all levels of ability. The village of Seaton Sluice is located behind a small harbour at the southern end of Blythe Bay, forming the right hand end of this huge beach. The beach itself is made up of deep red-golden sand, which as it lays at a very shallow angle, exposes large amounts of sand at low tide. This shallow angle produces various surfing peaks down the length of the beach, which shift with the tide. The surfing here can be very good; the highlight being the break off the headland just below the Kings Arms Pub. This right-hander breaks on the tip of the point and under the right conditions can produce some long right hand rides along the headland and up to sections on the beach.
The whole bay is slightly south facing so the waves will hold their quality when other beaches are blown out by bigger swells from the north. Despite it being right on the doorstep of Newcastle there is still plenty of space to ensure it doesn't get too crowded. Seaton is a vibrant village right on the doorstep of the bright lights of Tynemouth and Newcastle, with loads to check out after the surf.
