Lifeboat rescues wind surfer

Apr 19 2008 by Hywel Trewyn, Daily Post

A Woman wind surfer was rescued unharmed after being carried out to sea off Anglesey yesterday. Helen Davidson, 36, of Rhosneigr, had gone out windsurfing with her partner Roger but got into difficulties in strong winds. Luckily, the owner of Funsport surf shop, which overlooks the bay, Dave Buckland, realised that she was having problems and called 999 about 3.30pm.

Holyhead coastguards immediately alerted Trearddur Bay inshore lifeboat. A relieved Helen said: “I’m OK. I just couldn’t get back to shore. “I’m going to call round the lifeboat station to say thanks. I can’t thank them enough.”

Helen added: “I think I will leave the wind surfing for a couple of weeks!”

Dave, 37, said: “The thing was, she didn’t look like she was in too much trouble but if I had left it she could have gone out to sea. She was a little bit too far out.”
