Guide to creating Blogs and News Items on Surfing GenieBlogs are for the private use of the registered user and for recording your day to day experiences. Please do not put up any content that may be offensive to other users. You can include two external links and one internal link (this is to prevent spamming) within the blog item, if you feel the sites are useful to other members. The blogs are not for any commercial exploitation so please do not put any links up for commercial gain, such as adverts or links that incorporate cookies or trackers. If you have had a great experience of a business (surf school, B&B, shop) then it is perfectly okay to write about them. News Items are for businesses to issue press releases onto the web. Please do not put up any content that may be offensive to other users or inflammatory to other businesses. Content should cover a unique or new event or announcement rather than just an advert, as this is what your listing is for. It should also be original copy to avoid plagiarism. You may include two external (to websites) and one internal link (to your listing) on each release (again to prevent spamming). There is no limit to the number of News Items that you can upload but the general guide should be that each is covering a new event or information and is original. Businesses are kindly asked not to use blogs for commercial gain (including advertising, selling or marketing business products or services, either for themselves or for third parties). Suggestions for subject for News Items:
Example News Item: The following is an example of a press release that we issued in 2007. It would be okay for the time of the website going live but not for re-release at a later stage, as it is not original content and not regarding a recent event or change. Consult The Surfing Genie Before Heading For The Beach Britain’s beaches are back in fashion and combined with a growing interest in surfing and other water sports, the launch of a new website now makes information on over 200 beaches around the British Isles quickly and easily available. Surfing Genie www.surfinggenie.com provides full details and photographs of beaches and their facilities that can be searched either geographically or by specific requirements. Service providers can list their contact details free of charge alongside the relevant beach creating a rapidly growing database of surf schools, bed and breakfasts and hotels with more events, restaurants, cafes, pubs, clubs and other services to be added over the summer. If you walk down a beach today you will pass 10 year olds alongside 60 year olds, both carrying surfboards. In the water the talented surfer flying past you on a wave is as likely to be a young women as a young man, the person in the wetsuit is as likely to be an investment banker as a student. Surfing has become a truly inclusive sport enjoyed by every section of society. The popularity of surfing has spawned a vibrant British surfing industry ranging from surf schools through surfboard and wetsuit manufacturing to specialist international surf tour companies. This has had a significant impact on the economy of coastal towns. The British Resorts and Destinations Association reported that the number of Britons going to the seaside rose to 21 million in 2006 from 19m in 2003, spending £14bn on holidays. This spending power has changed the face of many towns with Newquay gaining its own airport and Padstow, Watergate Bay & Ilfracombe boasting nationally famous restaurants. Next year will see the completion of the UK’s first artificial surfing reef in Bournemouth. The newest activity on the water scene is kite surfing. When the quantum leap was made from traditional flat kites to ‘wing’ kites a new industry was born. These are so powerful that they were considered as an emergency means of powering shipping. Kite-surfing is now one of the world’s fastest growing sports and the location of the British Isles puts it at the forefront – Aaron Hadlow being the three times world champion. The website also gives factual information on topics like ocean waves, safety and fitness, as well as providing a forum for beach goers and water sports enthusiasts to exchange news and views on their experiences. The concept behind Surfing Genie is simple: you shouldn’t have to spend a huge amount of valuable time trying to find the right beach, or a surf school, or an available B&B. Hopefully now with one website at your fingertips you should be spending that time having fun on the beach or in the water. Find out more at www.surfinggenie.com |
