Page 3 of 6 Surfing Genie for MarketingJoining an International Community of Small Businesses Surfing Genie is a community of small businesses, who as local businesses are not in direct competition with each other. Someone looking for a B&B in Cornwall is unlikely to be swayed to stay in a B&B on the north coast of Scotland or Ireland, and vice versa. So by being a large online community the whole is greater than the sum of the parts and your business or organisation gains the leverage of a large international organisation / website. By creating your listing you create an advertisement that is linked directly to what most tourists are looking for - their destination. As free marketing goes, you can't get much better. We add our knowledge of web development and work closely with the national tourist bodies of Visit Britain and Visit Ireland, along with regional tourism boards, national bodies such as the RNLI, British Surfing Association and other key partners in government to create a website that will benefit everyone along our coasts. Press Releases Using an agency or news wire for Press Releases is normally well beyond the budget of most small private businesses (c£500). However the software tools built into Surfing Genie allow you to create your own press releases via the News Items application. Once you have registered as a user and created your listing, you will be able to write News Items that appear on the Surfing Genie home page. These items, as well as the personal blogs are also indexed by the major search engines’ spiders and are often resubmitted globally on their own press release system. So 20 minutes writing could get you global coverage. However they index the content against the own (gargantuan) database so if it has been seen before (i.e. you are plagiarising someone else’s text that is already on the web) they won't index it. So do be original. Please note that Blogs are for personal experiences of the registered user and News Items are for business or organisation announcements. We do monitor the content to ensure no megalomaniac individuals are writing news items about themselves! We also ensure that the blogs section isn’t hijacked for commercial purposes, including advertising of business services or products. However you can get creative. If you run a surf school or B&B and some of your customers have an amazing weekend with you, why not ask them to write a blog and put up a few photos. It will be interesting text that will attract readers and in turn visitors to your business. Photos and Listings You may have noticed that all content created on Surfing Genie has its creator’s profile on it, whether it is blogs, news, photos or listings. So why not add high quality photos to the beach pages, as the better photos will be viewed more and in turn your own profile page. Consider being your own local reporter and create a listing under the ‘Places of Interest’ category on local castles, museums or features or create a listing under the ‘Events’ category on popular local events. We cannot allow people to create listings on other businesses they don’t own, for obvious reasons but there are plenty of things you can cover that would attract people to your local area. Beaches We are building a complete database of all the beaches around the British Isles, which will take time. However if your local beach isn’t yet covered, contact us and we will create the page for you. We do apply rigorous standards to beach information to ensure that the data is firstly safe and secondly objective rather than subjective. This will ensure a national standard and more accurate search results for users of the website. However local knowledge is vital and we will positively support those individuals that contribute beach information. |
