Walcott is another small village further down the same strip of sand as East Runton, Cromer & Mundesley and again works best in the same conditions as these beaches. It will pick up any swell that travels down the North Sea from Scotland and works best in medium to large swell conditions. The beach is a fantastic strip of clean sand with character created by the wooden groynes that have been built into the beach to prevent erosion. These groynes create sand bars that can generate clean walling waves that break left away from the groynes and sand bars. Although the rides are short the waves can be surprisingly good.
Walcott doesn't have any cliffs to protect it from any strong southerly winds and so this is a great venue for wind and kite surfers. The beach is protected at high tide by a seawall and so works best at low tide, when the waves are breaking furthest from the groynes. Walcott village just right behind the beach and being small ensures that the crowds are never particularly large. This is just as well as the parking spaces are limited. It is a quiet location with a good pub. If you need more the bright lights of Great Yarmouth are just to the south if required.
